Have YOU heard about Leadership Institute 2012?!

As a collegiate member of Alpha Omicron Pi, I was fortunate enough to attend all three AOII sponsored events- Convention 2009 in Tampa, Leadership Academy 2010 and Leadership Institute 2010. Though all three events are incredible in their own way, Leadership Institute definitely stood out as my favorite!  Whether you are a Chapter President, Cabinet officer, new initiate or recent alumna member, Leadership Institute will have something for you!

In 2010, Xi Chapter was fortunate enough to take 8 chapter members and 1 adviser to Leadership Institute!   Little did we know that having so many members attend LI would make such an impact on our chapter’s appreciation and understanding of the international Fraternity.   Not only were we able to have at least one member in each learning path, but the amount of connections and contacts that our chapter made multiplied from previous events.

Here we are the night before we flew out from Oklahoma City!

Leadership Institute provides a full weekend of AOII education sessions, self-improvement speakers, fun contests, fire side chats, headquarters tours and sisterhood workouts.  You will have the chance to meet fellow AOII’s from around the country to learn new ideas and share best practices.  LI also gives you the opportunity to meet your Network team and Headquarters staff so that you can put faces with names and build those relationships that are so important throughout the year.

One of our proudest moments- When our Chapter Adviser ran the podium after winning the
 ‘Whats in Your Purse’ contest!

Alex, Loree, Jaclyn and Amy on the way to their first-ever Headquarters Tour!

The most important thing to remember is that Leadership Institute is NOT just for officers and advisers!  We encourage chapters to bring as many members as possible, regardless of their year in school.  Every session you attend and speaker you listen to will give you something useful that you can (and should!) share with your sisters back at home.

Hurry! Time is running out, but signing up for Leadership Institute 2012 is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
  1. Talk to your chapter officers and advisers to see if there is any money available in the chapter budget for LI scholarships to help sisters cover the travel and registration expense.
  2.  Make an announcement at your next chapter meeting about LI.  Make sure that your sisters know that EVERYONE is welcome and encouraged to attend, not just your chapter officers!
  3. Sign up online at www.alphaomicronpi.org!

My Year In Numbers

As my last visit as an ELC comes to an end, it’s hard to believe that these nine months have gone by so quickly. Each visit left me feeling like I’d known the chapter for much longer than I had and visit after visit passed so quickly that I don’t know where the rest of my year went! While I have often used the word “countless” to describe different things I’ve done or seen during this incredible journey, I will now attempt to count some of the elements of my year as an ELC.

This year I have….

Been to 2 initiations

Taken 2 train rides, 3 ferry rides, 3 taxi rides, 4 bus rides, and 11 subway rides

Gone ice skating 3 times

Attended 4 basketball games, 2 football games, and 1 hockey game

Made 6 new best friends

Stayed in 8 AOII chapter houses

Made 12 trips through customs

Attended 18 chapter meetings

Been in 25 states (plus 4 Canadian provinces)

Conducted 26 chapter visits at 21 different chapters

Traveled through 27 airports

Slept in 37 different beds

Spent 45 days at home and 54 days in Canada

Boarded 61 planes

Lugged 96 pounds of luggage around

Gone to 98 recruitment parties

Spent a total of 205 days on the road

Met around 1423 AOII sisters during chapter visits

AND traveled 35,353 miles in planes!

While this experience has been a total whirlwind, it's also been so incredible and no amount of numbers could ever fully describe how truly priceless this year has been. (Mastercard pun intended ;)

Roses and all my Alpha Love,

Jessica
